Where we come from.
TJ Beauty was built on a South London shop floor, by people who grew up using the products we sell - and grew up watching family members travel across the city, sometimes across the country, to find the formulas that actually worked on their skin and hair.
We saw the asterisks. The shade ranges that stopped too soon. The 'may not be suitable for darker skin tones' tucked at the bottom of the bottle. The shelves that treated melanin-rich beauty like a footnote.
So we built the shop we always wanted to walk into. And we started with the customers the high street kept overlooking - because that's where the bar should be set.

Today, our shelves serve every shade and every culture. The curl that wraps tight and the wave that softens loose. The skin that flushes pink, the skin that tans deep, and every undertone in between. The teenager battling her first breakout, the mother chasing post-pregnancy glow, the grandmother who just wants what she's used for thirty years to still be on the shelf.

The founding lens hasn't changed - melanin-rich beauty is still the heart of how we curate. But here's the thing about building to that standard: when you formulate, source, and stock for the most overlooked skin, you raise the bar for everyone. That's why our customers come from every background. Products that work for all of us tend to just work.
We don't stock everything. We stock what works.
Every product on our shelves earns its place.
We hand-pick brands against a single test: does it deliver - really deliver - for the people we serve? We source direct, never grey-market. We test before we stock. We listen when customers tell us something didn't work, and we delist when we have to.
No gimmicks. No filler brands that just look good on a shelf. If it's with us, someone on our team has used it, sold it, and stood behind it. That's the difference between a beauty store and a beauty curation.
Walworth Road is the world.
Walk into our Walworth shop on a Saturday and you'll hear five languages before you reach the till. Black British and Caribbean families stocking up for the month. South Asian customers asking about turmeric and saffron-led brightening. West African students grabbing essentials before term starts. White customers who've finally found a curl cream that doesn't fight their hair.
That's not a marketing line. That's a Saturday.
Our team reflects it. We're hairstylists, skincare consultants, daughters and sons of customers who shopped here twenty years ago.
